Tariff FAQs
What is Mercedes-Benz doing to minimize the impact of the tariffs?
Most immediately, Mercedes-Benz will be absorbing some of the impact of the tariffs to protect the price (MSRP) of its Model Year 2025 vehicles. That means all MY25 vehicles will remain priced as they were before the implementation of the auto tariffs, until further notice.
In addition, Mercedes-Benz is fortunate to have a well-established presence producing vehicles in the U.S. since 1997 with its plant in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The plant produces the GLE, GLS, EQE SUV and EQS SUV, which together comprise 35% of the vehicles sold in the U.S. The current environment provides production capacity that will allow for a model-line-by-model-line adjustment of vehicle production to mitigate the impact and cost of the tariffs.
Mercedes-Benz will also continue its active and direct dialogue with the Trump Administration and will reiterate how integral Mercedes-Benz is to the U.S. economy and the local communities in which its team members live and work. We will emphasize Mercedes-Benz's long legacy in the United States and its significant footprint and investments in both manufacturing and through its retail network of 385 stores.
Do the auto tariffs announced on March 26 raise the price of purchasing or leasing a new Mercedes-Benz vehicle?
While the auto tariffs undoubtedly raise the cost of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, Mercedes-Benz has made the decision to protect the MSRP of all Model Year 2025 vehicles until further notice.
Which Mercedes-Benz vehicles are affected by the tariffs?
The vehicles in the Mercedes-Benz portfolio are affected by the tariffs at varying levels. For example, the GLE, GLS, EQE SUV and EQS SUV are produced in the U.S., which protects them from the full impact of the tariffs. Together, these four vehicle lines comprise 35% of the vehicles sold by Mercedes-Benz in the U.S., but they do contain a portion of parts that will be affected by the tariffs. All other vehicles are imported from outside the U.S. and are therefore more significantly impacted by the tariffs.
Do the tariffs affect existing incentives and discounts on Mercedes-Benz vehicles?
Incentives and discounts are defined on a monthly basis as a part of Mercedes-Benz's commercial and sales planning, and customers can expect these to continue to be available. Dealers can refer to the sales program guide and customers can visit the "Special Offers" page on MBUSA.com.
What happens to the price of Mercedes-Benz vehicles starting with Model Year 2026?
The current trade environment remains dynamic, but if the tariffs remain in place, it will result in a significant increase in the cost of vehicles and parts mid- to long-term. Mercedes-Benz is working to understand the full scope of the impact and the competitive environment to make the best decisions for customers and the business.
Do the tariffs apply to the cost of vehicle parts?
Yes, the tariffs apply to Mercedes-Benz parts, but the price of parts for a customer will remain the same in April.
Will the cost to service my Mercedes-Benz vehicle increase?
Given the tariffs apply to parts, the overall cost of service for the customer is expected to increase. However, the price of Mercedes-Benz parts will remain the same in April.
Do the tariffs impact the vehicle I have now that I plan to / am trading in?
Trade-ins are subject to the vehicle market, and the fluctuations of supply and demand, which will be affected overall by the tariffs and the costs that they will add. This is true now, and into the foreseeable future based on the information we know today about the tariffs.
What if a dealer doesn't have a vehicle in stock that I want before the end of April?
Mercedes-Benz has a network of 385 stores with strong levels of inventory. Even if a dealer doesn't have the right vehicle for a customer immediately, it is likely they can locate it within the national network and/or Mercedes-Benz USA's stock. We remain committed to maintaining current MY25 pricing until further notice.
If I purchase or lease after the tariffs go into effect and then they are reversed, do I get the tariff money back?
Based on the information available to us, refunds from a rolled-back tariff do not look likely.
