Performance
The 2026 Mercedes-Benz GLE is available with multiple powertrains. These options start with a turbo four-cylinder, 255-horsepower engine and a turbo six-cylinder, 375-horsepower alternative. A plug-in hybrid V6 puts out 381 horsepower and offers up to an EPA-estimated 49 miles of all-electric range. Several other high-output engines are available, including the turbo V8 that generates 603 horsepower.
The 2026 BMW X5, on the other hand, has only three engine options. The two gas engines are a turbo six-cylinder, mild-hybrid, 375-horsepower engine and a turbo V8, mild-hybrid, 523-horsepower alternative. A plug-in hybrid engine is also available. It has up to an EPA-estimated 39-mile all-electric range. While the X5 starts out with more horsepower, that comes at a premium in terms of the vehicle's starting MSRP.
Appearance
The 2026 GLE has remarkable style with both sophisticated and sporty components. The front end is distinguished by a sculpted hood and a regal, column-themed grille. The headlights have upper and lower LED bars with LED bulbs located centrally. Below the headlights, the large air vents point inward. Across the sides, sweeping contouring is encapsulated by upper and lower creases.
The BMW X5 has a swooping, defined hood with a compact, chrome-accented grille. The lower bumper has a squared-off design with chrome trim. A chrome accent runs along the front fender and the lower door panels as well. The sides show off deep contouring.
