The Gullwing Returns!!! 

Mercedes-Benz is saying the 2011 SLS AMG is the spiritual successor to the 300SL Gullwing.  This modern revival of the 300SL Gullwing comes complete with everything that is Mercedes-Benz and AMG; from its now-familiar AMG 6.2-liter 32-valve V-8 that pumps 563hp through its slim 3571 pound total weight.  How fast is the SLS?  Mercedes-Benz is projecting a 0-to-62-mph of 3.8 seconds and the top speed is governed at 197 mph.  And when it comes time to stop?  It will be hauled down by standard cast-iron and aluminum compound disc brakes measuring 15.4 inches in the front and 14.2 inches in back, squeezing six-piston calipers in front and four-piston calipers at the rear.  Impressive!!  The SLS AMG has also been designed with a rearwing which pop up at high speeds for stability and handling as well as assist when braking.  All that power and technology under a body design that it so exciting it stimulates a positive response at the instinctive level - it generates a sensual quality.  With lines that will make a jet plane green with envy and the gullwing doors that are both retro and classic the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG will join its spiritual brothers the 300SL, the CLS-Class and the SL-Class as the legendary image of our brand.
